Biography

Dr. Evan Garfein is Chief of the Division of Plastic Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center and Professor of Surgery at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. As a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon, Dr. Garfein specializes in breast and body aesthetic surgery. He has a particular specialty in breast augmentation and reduction surgery, as well as abdominoplasty and liposuction. 

He is the author of over 60 peer-reviewed papers on a range of topics, including body contouring following sustained weight loss in diverse populations, postoperative pain after breast reduction and patient satisfaction and quality of life following plastic and reconstructive surgery. He has been recognized each year by New York Magazine’s Best Doctors issue for nearly a decade. 

In addition, Dr. Garfein holds three patents in the bio-medical space, authored a New York State
law addressing socioeconomic inequality in breast reconstruction, and has been featured in
the Wall Street Journal for his efforts to obtain care for a critically ill child from Mongolia.

Dr. Garfein is a graduate of Princeton University and the College of Physicians and Surgeons at
Columbia University. He completed his residency in plastic surgery at Harvard Medical School
and a fellowship in microsurgery at New York University Medical School. In 2023, Dr. Garfein
received his MBA from Columbia Business School. He lives in New York City with his wife Tanya
Simon, who is the Executive Editor of 60 Minutes, their two sons, Jack and Teddy and their dog,
Charlie.
